Last night I finished watching design e^2: the economies of being environmentally conscious a PBS series on green architecture narrated by Brad Pitt that I picked up from my local library (I do so love libraries!). It was really quite good. The ingenuity was amazing and the buildings themselves were beautiful.
What I really found most amazing though was how hopeful and optimistic the episodes were. It was inspiring.
(I like to refer to myself as an optimistic realist. I'm often hopeful but that hope is always tempered by a strong dose of logic. I would actually call myself a pessimist if it weren't for that constantly lingering hope around the fringes.)
These people in design e^2 were truly optimistic though. It seemed they felt that the benefits of green architecture were so apparent that it could not fail to be adopted. I agree wholeheartedly that the benefits are clear. I fear, however, that the subject does not receive as much attention as it should. I hope that it will start to and that this series will help.
Go watch it! Six 30min informative episodes are worth your time (And remember, it is narrated by Mr. Pitt).
My favorites: Green for All, Gray to Green, and China: from Red to Green?
Oh, and look, there are more in the series: http://www.pbs.org/e2/! PBS, I commend you.
